Planning Your Visit

Patience is Key

The Mons Station Calatrava project is notorious for its lengthy construction and budget overruns. While parts are open, expect ongoing work and potential temporary disruptions. Plan for a longer visit than you might anticipate for a typical station.

Embrace the Artistry

Designed by Santiago Calatrava, this station is a work of art. Appreciate the futuristic architecture, but be aware that some practicalities, like restroom availability or escalator functionality, might not match the aesthetic. It's an experience as much as a transit hub.

Mons, gare maudite ? Dessinée par Calatrava, la gare de Mons a accumulé les retards. Le budget a explosé. Le rêve s’est transformé en cauchemar. Aujourd’hui, le projet prend forme, mais quand donc sera-t-il enfin achevé ? #mons #belgium #belgique #station #gare #architecture #calatrava #train #city #

Reviews Summary

Visitors are captivated by the stunning, futuristic architecture of Mons Station Calatrava, often calling it one of the most beautiful stations they've seen. However, many point out significant drawbacks due to prolonged construction, including limited amenities like restrooms and unreliable escalators, leading to a less-than-practical user experience.

"One of the most beautiful Station I have ever seen! ❤️❤️❤️"

Zana Suran

"Mons gets a reward for the longest newbuilding and renovation of a railway station. I have passed the city many times and during a period of at least 20 years they have been working on a sort of futuristic station which is still not completed.

Passengers still use a temporary ticket building and ramps to and from the platforms.

But at the end of August 2023 when I passed again there was some hope of completion in the near future"

Seimen Burum

"Mons has been under construction since I first came here, I think like jan/feb 2015. Now they actually have moved bus/taxi away from where you come from station. I guess their plan is to let people in/out of the big bridge that was about halfway for many years. I don't know if it was a budget problem or why, but it looked like no one worked there.
However it seems like stuff happens (its Belgium so not in a usual way).
As said taxi and busses are moved further away. I can see it is done, but old place is still there, why wait to let the busses be in new area before the people will get out there...
Also the Atm inside the station is removed. It will probably return in the big overpass/station/shops whatever they plan. But why remove the possibility of withdraw cash before new place have it...

But I bet I will miss the station l Even I don't understand French or they understand English, some of them are very nice even we use finger language and pointing...

(btw, picture without ppl is from 21 and other from this year (23). It is the "brigdethingy in the back which has talen way over 8 years (it had more roof in 21 than 15 but about the same in length, maybe shorter but about halfway)"
