"An amazing home and museum worthy of being compared to other famous homes of intelectual and artists in other place around the world, such as Neruda's and Frida's. Highly recommend visiting with a lot of time."
Arthur Gonçalves
"An extraordinary experience for whoever has interest in Jorge Amado, a pilar in Brazilian literature. This was the house where he spent his last years with his dear partner in life, Zelia Gattai. They “adopted” the house in 1973 and had it beautifully re-engineered to meet their desire for a comfortable home but foremost a location to meet and greet the wide community of artists in Salvador. So that, for to a quarter century, this house was the epicenter of the Salvador community of intellectuals and artists.
As you enter the property, you are immediately taken by the charm of the abundant vegetation co-existing with the house itself and how one has mutually blended with the other. You will be visiting one room after the other, each filled with intriguing memories and illustrations of the period. The living room features Amado’s typewriter. This was the room feeding his inspiration. Cooled with the shade of the generous vegetation above the house, it also brought the carpal cropping of toads outside at night. You are then brought to the kitchen, the dressing room, and many others rooms, each filled with touching illustrations of this fruitful period that has marked the Brazilian cultural heritage.
An awesome experience which stands very high in list of locations of interest in Salvador!"

"Good to see if you know Jorge Amado or are interested in Bahian culture. The gardens are great and the house itself is pretty impressive, but lacks lots of things from how it originally was. One of the guides speaks English. Can be difficult to park on the street, normally full."
