Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Estação da Luz for its magnificent Victorian architecture and historical significance, often highlighting it as a must-visit for its beauty, especially when captured in natural light. It serves as a crucial transport hub and a gateway to cultural gems like the Museum of the Portuguese Language. However, some travelers note challenges with ticketing for foreigners and express concerns about safety in the surrounding areas after dark.

"Well preserved historical building. This beautiful train station was built in the late 19th century and most materials for its construction were brought from the UK. Designed by British architect Henry Driver. I would recommend coming here during the day to take advantage of the natural light, which brings out the beauty of the station. Security level is good, few security personnel stationed in front of the entrance and some policemen will be on patrol around the area. Still, please be mindful and always be vigilant. Also, this station houses the Museum of the Portuguese Language."

"Almost impossible to find the operating hours. Google maps informed us that it goes every 10 minutes, but apparently the express runs once per hour. Ticket booth doesn’t work for foreigners and there is no English language option whatsoever. Tip - can use your credit / debit card on the gates, similarly to London’s tube. It’s a shame that such a massive and international airport has infrastructure that doesn’t work. I’d assume there is at least one train each 30 minutes… :) another negative point - as of 1 October 2024 there is only bus connection between different terminals and the train station - also not as frequent as one could assume. On the positive note, price is very affordable - only 5 reales. It can be called express only if one is lucky enough that it’s flight is scheduled in line with its operating hours :)"

"It’s a must-visit place in São Paulo. You’d rather go during day light to get nice pics. It’s a huge station. So if you want to see the classic station stop, it’s easier to get indoors through the streets. Otherwise, you’re gonna walk a while to go upstairs from the other entrances in the underground station."
