What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the unique 'tree-to-bar' chocolate experience and the scenic beauty of Fazenda Riachuelo, especially the insights gained from guided tours. However, some have encountered issues with customer service and booking, suggesting that advance planning and managing expectations are key for a smooth visit.

Vale a pena!"

The 'Tree-to-Bar' Chocolate Experience
Visitors can witness firsthand the journey of the cacao bean. This includes understanding the cultivation methods, such as the Cabruca system, which is vital for preserving the biodiversity of the Atlantic Forest. You'll see how the cacao pods are harvested, fermented, and dried before being transformed into delicious Mendoá chocolates. This immersive experience offers a deep appreciation for the craft and dedication involved in producing fine chocolate.
This approach not only guarantees exceptional chocolate but also supports sustainable practices and local economies. The emphasis on quality and origin makes Fazenda Riachuelo a significant destination for chocolate enthusiasts and those interested in ethical food production.
Sustainable Cacao Farming: The Cabruca System
This sustainable practice not only benefits the environment but also contributes to the unique flavor of the cacao. The shade from the forest canopy slows down the ripening process of the cacao pods, leading to a more complex and nuanced flavor profile in the beans. This is a key factor in the high quality of Mendoá chocolates, which are celebrated for their distinct taste.
By adhering to the Cabruca system, Fazenda Riachuelo demonstrates a commitment to environmental stewardship and the production of premium, ethically sourced cacao. It's a model that highlights how agriculture and conservation can coexist harmoniously, offering a compelling story for visitors interested in sustainable tourism and food production.
Navigating Your Visit: Tips from Travelers
When it comes to finding the farm, pay close attention to the signage. There isn't a prominent sign for Fazenda Riachuelo itself. Instead, look for signs indicating the RW Supermarket, as this marks the entrance to the access road. This tip is crucial for avoiding confusion and ensuring you reach your destination smoothly.
While the chocolate itself is often praised, some visitors have noted inconsistent customer service. It's advisable to manage expectations regarding interactions with staff and to focus on the educational and sensory aspects of the tour. Despite these challenges, many find the experience of learning about chocolate production and tasting the local flavors to be highly rewarding.
