What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors appreciate Fortaleza de Santa Catarina for its historical significance and scenic ocean views, noting its low entry fee as a major plus. However, many point out that the fort could benefit from better maintenance and more informative displays to fully enhance the visitor experience.
"Great Ducth fortress. I saw a play there and it was great."
Gerson Almeida
"The only vestige of the Portuguese military presence in this area from the 17th century, if you are in the area and like history, it’s worth a visit. Unfortunately, there is almost no information about the history of the structure or the few displays within it, and the fort is not complete (one point of the star-shaped fort appears to have been demolished to accommodate the neighboring Port of Cabedelo)."
Edward Delfino
"An important historical landmark left alone without proper maintenance and signs. No timeline, no guided stations with written information, rusting cannons, grass all over the place, dirt and solid residues in the back. Tickets sell for R$2 a person (US$ 0.30) which obviously don't cover basic costs. No companies sponsor the site although it is next door neighbor to Petrobras and the Port of Cabedelo. It is a must visit place in a dismal condition."
