"Forte fazia parte do sistema de defesa do porto de Santos e dói idealizado no final do século XIX junto com a fortaleza do Itaipú. Em 1934 iniciou-se as obras do complexo subterrâneo que abastecia as columbrinas com alcance de 12 km. Com a 2 Guerra Mundial a ideia de manter uma posição fixa perdeu completamente o sentido e o forte foi desativado. Hoje as baterias são móveis, transportadas em veículos ou mesmo no ombro do combatente com um enorme poder de alcance. Assim esse forte encerra a história dos fortes na Costa brasileira."
