What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Iguaçu River rafting tour offers an exhilarating, up-close encounter with the falls, with many calling it a must-do for its adrenaline rush and unique perspective. However, be prepared to get completely soaked and acknowledge that it is a pricey excursion, with some finding the cost high for the duration and the primary goal being to drench passengers.
"If you go to Iguazu falls, this is kind of a must do excursion to get up close and person with the falls. As a warning, when they say you "could" get wet, they're not taking about Sitting in the first 3 rows at sea world with the possibility of getting splashed. What they mean to say is that you will be run back and forth under a fire hose coming off the edge of a cliff for about 5 minutes. 😃. Okay, so the fire hose is an exaggeration, but you may as well be sitting in the shower as there is no way anybody leaves the boat dry. So don't forego the rain poncho, they are absolutely necessary unless you're in a swim suit. Ride was also part of the fun as at points you feel like your white water rafting... upstream. It's awesome and was one of our favorite parts of the day. The rainforest ride part was fine, but nothing to be excited about. You do this excursion for the boat ride. Operator seemed like a quality outfit, and their guides were friendly. Happy to recommend them"

"It's very nice to get on the water and see the falls from this angle, but it seems that the prime objective is to soak the passengers. The driver goes out of his way to park the boat under a fall from every angle. Beautiful views and well organized but a little pricey."

"Definitely worth doing. Exciting ride through the rapids to the Falls. The boat captains are talented and stay clear of the more serious whitewater on the ride. Plan on getting wet, though."

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Ensure your children are comfortable with loud noises and being splashed intensely. For very young children or those who are easily frightened, the experience might be overwhelming. Always check the tour operator's age recommendations and consider if the intensity is suitable for your family's comfort level.
💰 Budget Travelers
If you do decide to splurge, ensure you're getting the most out of it by being fully prepared to get soaked and embracing the adrenaline. Bringing your own waterproof gear can save on rental costs, and focusing on the unique experience rather than just the 'view' can help justify the expense.

The Macuco Safari Experience
As you approach the falls, the roar of the water intensifies, and the boat captain expertly maneuvers the vessel to take you directly under some of the most powerful sections. This is where the 'getting wet' warning comes into full effect – expect to be completely drenched by the spray and mist. Many visitors describe it as an exhilarating, almost overwhelming, sensory experience.
While the primary objective is the thrill and the unique perspective of the falls from below, the guides are skilled at navigating the river and ensuring a safe, albeit wet, adventure. It's a highlight for many visitors to Iguaçu Falls, offering a stark contrast to the more serene views from the park's walking trails.
What to Expect: Getting Wet and Staying Safe
Safety is paramount, and the operators provide life vests for all passengers. The boat captains are experienced in navigating the river and the conditions around the falls. While the ride can feel wild, they are trained to avoid the most dangerous whitewater sections. However, the sheer force of the water and the spray are undeniable.
To protect your belongings, waterproof bags or dry bags are essential. If you plan to bring your phone or camera, ensure it's in a reliable waterproof case. Many visitors opt to store non-essential items in lockers or leave them with a non-participating friend.
Value for Money: Is It Worth the Price?
However, a significant number of reviewers emphasize that despite the cost, the experience is totally worth it. They highlight the unique adrenaline rush, the unforgettable sensation of being so close to the powerful waterfalls, and the sheer fun of the boat ride. For many, it's a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that provides a perspective of the falls not achievable from the land-based trails.
Ultimately, whether it's 'worth it' depends on your budget and your desire for an adventurous, immersive experience. If you're looking for a thrilling encounter with nature and don't mind getting soaked (and paying for it), the rafting tour is a highly recommended activity.
