What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Itaipu Dam as an awe-inspiring feat of engineering and a testament to binational cooperation. The well-organized tours provide a comprehensive look at the dam's scale and power generation capabilities, making it a highly recommended stop, especially for families and engineering enthusiasts. Some find the special tour less essential than the regular one for a general visitor.
"Impressive engineering accomplishment which is still the single greatest hydroelectric power generating plant in the world more than 50 years after the project started. And a great, well organized tour. You get to see basically the entire facility on this tour, from spillway to dam to power generation components. A great unifier of two great countries, run by a highly capable team. Congratulations! Don’t miss this tour, especially if you have your children with you."

"Such an impressive structure! We went on a bus tour and loved it! There was a lot of information and a chance to get out and take pictures. The bus drove right across the dam which was super cool! Definitely worth a visit. Also worth getting tickets in advance."

"If you are into massive feats of engineering this is the place for you. It’s an amazing sight to see and pretty cool they let tourists in.
My one suggestion is the special tour isn’t worth it unless you are super interested in seeing a little more detail. All that tour shows you is the control room, the internal room above the generators which is a huge empty room, and one of the spinning parts of the generator.
For ‘normal’ people I would just get the normal pass to see around the plant which is super impressive.
All in all a cool thing to add on to your Iguazú falls trip.
You can book online and if you do the special tour you need to wear shoes and have your knees covered. Also a photo of your passport is fine."
