"Itu is a charming spot with plenty of history and personality. You’ll find classic churches, old buildings, and quirky local icons like the gigantic coxinha and the oversized traffic light the city is known for. The place feels safe, full of cameras, family-friendly spaces, Christmas décor, and endless photo ops. Great for kids, great for wandering, great for anyone who enjoys a bit of culture with their stroll.
But—here’s the part travel brochures conveniently “forget”—parking is a headache. On our first visit, we only found a spot because it was past 9 p.m. When we tried again around late morning, forget it. Zero chance. Private parking lots clearly know the struggle and charge absurd prices, sometimes R$25 per hour, sometimes a flat rate that’s just as ridiculous.
I wish I had known this beforehand. I’d have skipped the car entirely, taken an Uber or walked there given your hotel is within a walking distance, and enjoyed the place properly instead of circling streets like a confused drone. Now I understand why so many people walk there.
