Reviews Summary

Jericoacoara National Park is celebrated for its stunning natural beauty, particularly its iconic dunes and vibrant sunsets, making it a paradise for watersports enthusiasts. While the sandy terrain and relaxed village atmosphere are highlights, some visitors find the journey challenging and the beaches less spectacular than anticipated, with occasional issues like seaweed.

"Nice protected national park with beautiful dunes and sunsets. Very sandy, like sand everywhere.
Also nice to jog as many people did.
Dog friendly."

"I am glad I went but I would not return. Getting there is a hassle. We hired a car from Fortaleza, then had to get a 4x4 into the park. You can fly to the nearby airport so that may be a better option. The dunes are beautiful but much reduced in size over recent years. The town is not unpleasant but a total tourist place. I prefer quieter places with less people. The beaches are not nearly as nice as the ones near me in Sao Paulo - hard sand and no shade anywhere. There was a lot of washed up rotting seaweed which was smelly and the water had zero visibility, maybe just the wrong time of the year. Lots of cars, buggies and motor bikes constantly racing around everywhere. It's a literal tourist trap as it is impossible to escape unless you take a 40 minutes bouncy ride back to Jeri, which is in effect leaving. It's really hard to self-cater because the local shops are very limited in what they have and are expensive. This must have once been a hauntingly beautiful place, but not anymore and would not make it into a top 50 list of places to visit in Brazil."

Paul Davis

"Nice beach place but the beach isn't anything spectacular in my eyes. Low tide takes the water out a long way, high tide leaves a small beach & shallow water. Loads of kite surfers & a few surfers (small waves from what I've seen). The night time comes alive with restaurants & drink vendors, this makes Jeri more attractive...but everything closes at 1am :)"

🚇 🗺️ Getting There

The most common way to reach Jericoacoara is by flying into Jericoacoara Airport (JJD) or Fortaleza Airport (FOR). The Sunset Dune is iconic for golden hour shots. Pedra Furada (Hole Stone) offers dramatic coastal views, especially at low tide. The lagoons, like Lagoa do Paraíso, provide stunning turquoise backdrops. Don't forget the charming sandy streets of the village! :camerawithflash:

The 'golden hours' – shortly after sunrise and before sunset – offer the most beautiful light for photography. Midday can be harsh, but it's perfect for capturing the vibrant blues of the lagoons. :sunriseovermountains: :city_sunset:

A wide-angle lens is great for landscapes and dunes. A telephoto lens can be useful for capturing kitesurfers in action. A polarizing filter can help manage the bright sun and enhance colors. Protect your gear from sand! 📷

Capture the vibrant kitesurfers against the blue sky, the silhouettes on the Sunset Dune, the unique hammocks in Lagoa do Paraíso, and the rustic charm of the village streets. The Pedra Furada at sunset or sunrise is also a classic shot. :surfer:

Use a camera bag, lens pouches, and consider a rain cover or plastic bag for extra protection. Avoid changing lenses in windy conditions. Brush off sand gently with a soft brush or blower. 🛡️
