Reviews Summary

MUSA offers a mixed but generally positive experience, with the observation tower being a standout attraction for its stunning canopy views. While some visitors find the exhibits and trails less developed than expected, the opportunity to immerse oneself in a rainforest environment and learn about local flora and fauna is highly valued. Be prepared for potential closures of certain attractions and inconsistent trail markings.

"Worth a visit!! It is a bit far from the city, but you are able to see the rainforest area from the top of the tower. Also, there are some snake, spider exhibitions where you cannot learn about different kinds of them. It’s not the real rainforest, but it has many good &safe spots for pictures! Doggos are cuddly. 🥰 Ps, they offer renting boots service if you are wearing a slipper. (10 BRL)"

"The place has potential but struggles with its identity. It tries to be a museum, a zoo,a botanical garden and a nature preserve all at once, but does not succeed properly or excel at either one. My suggestion is to build a proper museum and open the other trails to be visited without guides but marking them well with signs.

The animals are scarce (just a few fish, the snakes and spiders were largely hiding, and the butterfly section was closed), the museum and the botanical garden too small to be of significant value, while the nature reserve has one trail accessible to all while the others, more interesting ones, are only accessible with guides."

"Absolutely amazing natural museum that let's you feel like you are in the middle of the jungle and learn about the flora and fauna of the region 🌿"

Navigating MUSA's Trails and Exhibits

MUSA offers a unique blend of curated exhibits and natural trails, aiming to showcase the Amazon's biodiversity. The observation tower is a definite highlight, providing unparalleled views of the rainforest canopy from 42 meters up. Visitors often describe it as a fantastic spot for photos and a great way to grasp the scale of the Amazon. Reddit

Beyond the tower, MUSA features various pavilions dedicated to flora and fauna. You can expect to see exhibits of snakes, spiders, and fish. However, reviews suggest that the availability of these exhibits can be inconsistent, with some, like the aquarium or serpentarium, sometimes being closed without prior notice. Reddit The jungle trails offer a more immersive experience, allowing you to walk through the forest and potentially spot wildlife like lizards and monkeys. It's crucial to wear appropriate footwear, as trails can be muddy and home to various creatures. Reddit

While MUSA provides a valuable educational experience, some visitors feel it struggles to excel in any single area, attempting to be a museum, zoo, and botanical garden simultaneously. Reddit Despite this, the overall consensus leans towards recommending a visit, especially for the tower and the chance to experience a slice of the Amazon. Just manage your expectations regarding the consistency of all attractions being open. Reddit

Wildlife Encounters and Safety

MUSA offers opportunities for wildlife encounters, though sightings are never guaranteed. Visitors have reported seeing channel-billed toucans, various lizards, and spider monkeys on the trails. Reddit A notable experience shared by a visitor involved almost stepping on a snake crossing a trail, emphasizing the importance of staying aware and on marked paths. Reddit

Safety is a key consideration, especially regarding the presence of venomous animals. The park advises visitors to stay on the trails, and wearing closed-toe shoes is highly recommended, or even renting boots available on-site for a small fee. Reddit This precaution is well-founded, as demonstrated by the snake encounter, where hiking boots provided crucial protection. Reddit

While the exhibits offer a controlled environment to learn about Amazonian creatures, the natural trails provide a more authentic, albeit less predictable, experience. Always be mindful of your surroundings and follow park guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable visit. Bringing binoculars can also significantly enhance your chances of spotting birds and other animals from a distance. Reddit
