"O Museu de Arqueologia de Porto Seguro, inaugurado sob o título Fragmentos do Passado: 5.000 anos de História, é uma iniciativa importante para a valorização do patrimônio histórico e cultural do extremo sul da Bahia. Fruto de uma parceria entre a Prefeitura Municipal, a UESC, o IPHAN e a empresa Acervo, o museu apresenta uma rica coleção de artefatos arqueológicos encontrados na região, como fragmentos cerâmicos, instrumentos líticos e materiais de sambaquis e sítios ceramistas localizados em locais como Trancoso e Arraial d'Ajuda. A curadoria é assinada pelo arqueólogo Luís Viva, que organiza o acervo de forma a revelar a presença humana milenar no território, desde os povos mais antigos até ocupações mais recentes. Localizado na Cidade Alta de Porto Seguro, em um edifício histórico restaurado, o museu compartilha o espaço com o Museu de Arqueologia e Etnologia do Extremo Sul da Bahia.
