"Locals don't recommend that anyone swim in these waters. This is where river water mixes with seawater, and as the river gets sewage from the city, the water is not suitable for swimming.
If you came all the way to Paraty, make a bit more of an effort and drive to any of the dozens of other options that are much nicer than this beach.
There are about 5 kiosks that offer shade and places to sit and drink and eat. If you just want to go for a stroll and not go in the water, then fair enough, but this is all this beach provides."
