Reviews Summary

Praça da República is a historically significant and visually appealing park, especially noted for its colonial architecture and the vibrant Sunday craft fair. Visitors appreciate the shade from the mature trees and the lively market atmosphere. However, some reviews point out issues with maintenance, including damaged benches and peeling paint on buildings, which detracts from its overall charm.

"This wide triangle shaped park, shaded by mango trees and tall bamboos, is the centerpiece of the district. It holds a few notorious buildings including the “Teatro da Paz”.
The shades offer a rest from relentless sun, unfortunately, many of the benches have been vandalized and miss out multiple wooden stripes. The trash metal baskets have suffered from corrosion and the several buildings are peeling off. The far west side has the least damaged benches and the best shades."

Alexandre Bento Freire

"You can see the old Portuguese architecture still hanging on. But it's like a circus on the weekend. Local people trying to feed their families with knockoffs and reselling with the price higher than the stores. There are some real home made stuff there though. You just have to be careful"

Jeremy Thompson

"Really nice gardens close to the beautiful Theatre da Paz"
