Reviews Summary
Projeto Jiboia offers a unique opportunity to learn about and interact with snakes, with the photo session being a major draw. However, the experience is significantly hampered for non-Portuguese speakers due to the language of the presentations. Some visitors also found the photo session to be brief and expensive, with occasional issues regarding staff attentiveness.
"DON’T GO unless you speak Portuguese
After listening to a 30min speech with a few pictures you are excited to come to the highlight: taking pictures with 2 snakes around your neck.
First comes first serve so you get a clearly visible number at the entrance.
So far so good so simple, but when it was my turn (my Portuguese is good enough to understand the numbers) the lady called my number and within less than a second the next number leading to some discussion.
Shit happens, all good.
But after the other lady responsible for handing over the big yellow snake also COMPLETELY ignored me and walked out of the room without giving me the chance to take a picture with Mrs.Boa I got angry and did not feel welcome.
I paid 50Rs extra for these pictures. She couldn’t have missed this as she was sitting next to the cashier and she couldn’t have missed the fact that I am not a native speaker.
Again: not recommended unless you speak Portuguese as it is too expensive for what you get."

"We left after a few minutes. It’s like a joke gone bad. A few old tanks holding snakes. Then the stench of the public toilets. The whole thing is weird. We bought tickets through an agency in advance and will ask for refunds"

"I found the lecture boring as throughout it was in Portuguese which is hard to understand for a international traveler like me. We expected that the lecturer would atleast translate few things in English but unlucky us
But holding snake was an bizarre experience"

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Tip: Arrive early to get a good number for the snake photo session, minimizing wait times. Consider bringing a translation app or focusing on the visual aspects of the snakes if language is a barrier for your children. The novelty of holding a snake can be a lasting memory for kids.
🌍 International Travelers
Recommendation: If you don't speak Portuguese, focus on the visual experience and the hands-on snake interaction. Consider researching snake facts beforehand or using a translation app during the presentation. The unique photo opportunity is still a strong draw, even with limited understanding of the talk.

Understanding the Educational Aspect
However, the language barrier is a significant point of feedback for international travelers. While some Spanish speakers found it manageable, those without Portuguese proficiency often miss out on the detailed information. Some visitors suggested that incorporating visual aids or even brief English translations could greatly enhance the experience for a wider audience.
Despite the language challenges, many visitors find the educational aspect valuable, especially when combined with the hands-on experience. It's an opportunity to overcome fears and learn firsthand about reptiles in a safe and controlled environment.
The Interactive Snake Experience
This interactive session comes with an additional fee, which some visitors felt was steep given the brief interaction time. There have been instances where communication issues or perceived lack of attention from staff led to dissatisfaction. However, for many, the thrill of holding a snake and getting unique photos is well worth the cost and any minor inconveniences.
It's recommended to arrive early to secure an early number, especially if you're keen on this particular experience. Be prepared for a quick but memorable encounter that offers a unique perspective on these fascinating reptiles.
