What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors appreciate the historical and literary significance of Quarteirão Jorge Amado, particularly the Casa de Jorge Amado and the iconic Bataclan. However, some reviews point to a perceived lack of maintenance and administration, suggesting the area feels 'forgotten' and could be better preserved despite its cultural importance.
"Jorge Amado wrote several Brazilian stories. It was good to visit the place where some of them might have been written ."
Rodrigo Gonzalez
"The place seems forgotten by the local administration. It’s closed because of COVID but regardless of that it looks so forgotten. Painting got old, there are plants growing in the balconies, the place is forgotten. It proves the Brazilian tradition of destroying its history. Jorge Amado was one of Brazil’s greatest writers, his memory must be preserved, though the local administration of Ilheus seems to be doing that it can to destroy Jorge Amado’s memory."
Fábio Henrique Bittes Terra
"Definitely worth visiting but don't get too excited - the exhibition is quite poor. It could be sooo much better if well administrated. Also, only cash accepted for the tickets."
