"The Holy Cross Church of Burgas was built in 1853. On the site of the wooden chapel of Saint Stepanos, which dates back to 1673. The church is considered one of the oldest buildings in Burgas.

In the middle of the 19th century, the chapel was turned into a big church. The church was consecrated by Reverend Vakhtang Sisakyan In 1896.

According to the project of engineer Hrant Baklayan, In 1958, the stone belfry of the church was built, which has an inscription. It says that it was built in 1958, during the patriarchate of Catholicos Vazgen I.
In 1970, the church was included among the cultural monuments of Bulgaria.
In 1991, a monument dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide was erected in the courtyard of the church. It is a khachkar, in front of which is depicted a young boy who barely escaped during the Armenian Genocide.
It is carved on the monument: “In memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide of 1915”.

The author of the monument is the sculptor Harry Arabyan."

"Such a sweet little church which has been beautifully preserved. Look to the back of church for the painting of St Stephen being stoned to death, note that on the far right of the scene the young man not holding a stone only watching was Saul who later became St Paul."
