"When visiting this site, you park your car and walk past the gift kiosk and paid washrooms, following a dirt road through the trees. You’ll come to a set of stairs that lead up a hill. From the hilltop, you can see a rocky outcropping that once held other rock-hewn churches (now closed).
Continue along the track until you reach the entrance to the site that is open to visitors. The entrance fee is paid there. The staff are knowledgeable and passionate about the local sites. An English-speaking staff member explained the history of the site and offered some literature to borrow, which helped us better understand the church and its frescoes, which are quite impressive.
From there, you descend another set of stairs that take you back to the parking lot."
