"As per usual in Bulgaria, a genuinely amazing site and museum, but for no explainable reason no photos allowed"

"Well maintained, has an amazing view. Nice small museum packed with history with everything described. Also there is a lady which can tell you everything about the history of the region."
Teodor Nikolov
"Shumen Fortress has an important historical significance! During the first Bulgarian Empire, it was part of the defense system for Prisla and Preslev, the capitals and religious centers of Madara. Then it worked like a little fort.
We walked here without worries because we were the only ones in the whole city! Outside an indescribable heat. Also at the entrance you will find a coffee machine and a juicer with juices and water. Have 1 or 2 lev coins with you so you can get cold water from there. The toilet was also outside the ticket office. You have to walk through the forest for 2-3 minutes and you will find it at the end. It was still a bit dirty and old. It seems that European funds did not include the restoration of the toilets."
