What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
While the Chup Rubber Plantation is not consistently open for public tours, visitors who have managed to access the grounds report a fascinating experience observing the rubber tree tapping process and the organized plantation layout. The main drawback is the limited accessibility and lack of guided tours in English.
"Update Nov 2025: still not open for visitors. I think we can assume that the factory is never going to get reopened to the public sadly."
Lorenz Gerrier
"Tuesday morning 16 June (my 59th time around the sun)
See the gentleman in the guardhouse?
He says there is no admittance to the processing plant. 🤷🏼♀️
However, on the way into the Chup Rubber Plantation, Mr Khyna stopped the tuk tuk to show me the trees and the results of the tapping process.
It is somewhat similar to tapping for maple syrup, but more invasive.
Check out the green seed pod that is supposed to break open when it hits the ground to reveal the seed.
And check out how the latex even oozes from the stem of a cutting.
In the video you can see how straight the trees are planted in rows.
🎈Cool! I got to keep the seed. 🎉"

"1us dollar for the visit , but you go on your own inside the factory and you don't have any information in English. Not worth it"

The Rubber Tapping Process
The technique is often compared to maple syrup tapping, but it's a more invasive procedure for the tree. The latex, a natural polymer, is then processed to create a wide range of rubber products we use daily. Understanding this initial harvesting stage provides a deeper appreciation for the journey of rubber from tree to product.
Understanding Rubber Cultivation
Beyond the visual appeal, the plantation highlights the importance of rubber trees as a valuable agricultural commodity. The rubber seed pods are also a key element, containing the seeds necessary for the propagation and expansion of the plantation. Observing these elements provides insight into the agricultural science behind rubber production.
