What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors often find Wat Po Veal to be a surprisingly impressive pagoda complex, featuring beautiful Khmer architecture, serene ponds, and intriguing statues. Many appreciate the opportunity to interact with friendly monks and experience the local culture. While some note ongoing construction, the overall atmosphere is peaceful and enriching, making it a recommended stop in Battambang.
"It seemed like an average pagoda complex at first glance. In fact, it contained some of the more impressive buildings, three separate pond areas, some mysterious statues amidst rubble, and many friendly monks. I especially recommend the drink stand (past the main temple on the right side if you enter from the main gate). It is popular with monks and a good place to strike up a conversation. In the cemetery area, there is an unusual area with a giant statue of a tree, some venerable(?) logs in their own temple housing and a large stone eagle. If anyone knows what these indicate, I would be interested to know. This temple is centrally located in Battambang and should not be missed."

Many monks...big complex buildings old, new... and other under construction"

"Po Veal pagoda is located in Romchek 5 village, Sangkat Rattanak, Battambang city, Battambang province. Here is the Ing Thuong Buddhist High School, which has about 600 students. Wat Po, it has an average of 190-200 monks."
