What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Caravan Farm Theatre is celebrated for its beautiful venue and unique, immersive theatrical experiences set on an 80-acre farm. Visitors rave about the talented performers, well-organized events like barn dances and summer plays, and the overall friendly atmosphere. However, some immersive Halloween events have received mixed reviews regarding pacing and effectiveness.
"Beautiful venue!
We went there for a fundraiser/barn dance and had a wonderful time!!
The band, Barney Bentall, Dustin Bentall and Trixie Bentall were outstanding, as usual. They played a 90 minute set of original music and some hits. They also stayed and played some fiddle music for the barn dance!
The event was really well organized. Refreshments for purchase included non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, smokies and vegetarian smokies, and peach and blueberry pies."

"What a fantastic experience at this great venue! I came for a performance of "The Bear And The Proposal" and I wouldn't have want to miss this theatrical storytelling experience. Well organized, excellent executed in a setting that is hard to match. The friendly and inviting atmosphere makes you want to stay and/or come back often. I know, I'm becoming a regular patron of the Caravan Farm Theatre. Kudos to all staff and performers."
Thomas Schoen
"Cant speak for any other events they do, but the halloween walk with the mp3 players was incredibly boring. I find it hard to feel immersed with a pair of headphones on, you must go at a set pace which is up to interpretation, and the actors are not dynamic. They do the same thing in the same spot all night. Cool if youre 5 years old, thats about it."

Immersive Theatre Experiences
These immersive shows aim to transport the audience directly into the narrative, blurring the lines between performer and spectator. While some find this approach incredibly engaging and innovative, others have noted that the pacing and delivery can sometimes detract from the experience, particularly if the group ahead causes delays. It's a distinct style that offers a memorable, if sometimes unconventional, theatrical adventure.
For those seeking a more traditional theatrical experience, Caravan Farm Theatre also stages classic and original plays in more conventional outdoor settings, such as their Timber Barn. These productions often receive high praise for their creativity, humor, and talented performers, making them a must-see for theatre enthusiasts.
Barn Dances and Live Music
A highlight is their country barn dance experience, which typically includes a set by a featured artist, followed by an old-fashioned barn dance called by a dance leader. This format allows attendees to enjoy a full evening of entertainment, from listening to music to actively participating in the dance. The Timber Barn provides a rustic and charming venue for these events, enhancing the overall experience.
These musical evenings are a fantastic way to enjoy the Okanagan's vibrant arts scene and connect with the local community. They offer a more relaxed and participatory form of entertainment compared to staged plays, making them popular for a wide range of audiences.
The Walk of Terror: A Unique Halloween Event
Attendees are typically equipped with headphones and an MP3 player, guiding them through a narrative path. Actors are strategically placed along the route to deliver scares and advance the story. While many find the event to be a creative and frighteningly good time, some reviews suggest that the experience can be less impactful if the pacing is disrupted by other groups or if the actors' performances are perceived as repetitive.
Despite mixed feedback on the immersive audio aspect, the Walk of Terror remains a popular draw for those seeking a unique Halloween adventure. It's an event that pushes the boundaries of traditional theatre, offering a memorable and often chilling experience that leverages the farm's natural setting for maximum effect.
