I’m planning a one day trip to Barrie on Saturday from Toronto. I am also considering if it makes sense to go in Friday evening, stay the night and spend Saturday there. What are things I must do/ places I must see? Any gems that I must explore? I will be taking the GO train so…

Downtown Barrie
I’m sure this has been asked ten times over but I’m curious if this level of introspection has been done … If you don’t go downtown, do you also tend to stay home? Is it possible that a lot of people are still scarred from COVID? And not from getting sick or fear of. But…

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Barrie City Hall is recognized for hosting vibrant community events, particularly its well-organized New Year's Eve celebrations and popular winter skating rink. However, some visitors and residents have expressed significant concerns regarding public safety and the downtown environment.
"We had a wonderful experience celebrating New Year’s at Barrie City Hall! The fireworks, music, and all the festivities were beautifully organized and created such a joyful atmosphere for everyone. Even though we traveled from another city to be there, it was absolutely worth it—the whole evening left us with great memories. The energy of the crowd, the smooth coordination of the events, and the warm community vibe made it a truly special way to ring in the new year. Barrie truly knows how to host a celebration!"

"As a new resident of Barrie I thought I would come downtown to enjoy the waterfront and see some stores. I was so disgusted walking down here. Drug users in tents fighting, people doing crack pipes in the street, guys walking into stores with a live joint, cannabis stores everywhere. Complete lawlessness and an absolute disgrace for the City that has so much potential in a downtown.
A resident should be able to come downtown, feel safe, free of concern, and able to have a afternoon drink with a huge selection of restaurants, not five with one of them an open drug market.
Above all, zero police enforcement….what are you guys doing. What are we paying taxes for."

"When Barrie painted the rainbow bridge walkway I thought it was a step in the right direction, it was amazing. And after seeing Bradfords veterans remembrance walkway I say what are we doing? Should we not have one? Don't get me wrong I'm not saying get rid of the rainbow bridge, it should stay right where it is. I'm saying this is an opportunity to step up to remember our veterans, to honor them with their own walkway in a different location. Maybe in front of city hall?"
