Reviews Summary
Visitors are consistently awestruck by the immense size and solitary presence of Big Lonely Doug, finding the experience profoundly moving. While the road conditions can be challenging, requiring a 4x4 or a hike, most agree the journey and the sight of the ancient tree are well worth the effort. The nearby Eden Grove is also a highly recommended addition to the visit.
"The road in had a lot of potholes intermittently. Do not bring a car down this road. We ended parking our van 5 ish kilometres down the road from Doug which brought us across the Eden grove bridge. Since it was down pouring there were slugs on the road up which was quite neat to see. No bear sightings. There is a trail down to see Doug from far away before getting to the actual trail head down the road. Pictures don’t so Doug justice. This is a stunning tree.
There were more visitors than we expected in such a rainy day. The road seems long but it is very much worth the drive/walk in. Check out Eden Grove right down the road! We never realized this and it was only another 10-20 minute walk up the logging road."

"The Rodan was treacherous and rough. The experience of standing next to big lonely Doug, however, was awesome. To think that someone left that tree, as a testament to those others that had gone before, amazing worth the hike and worth the drive."

"Bumpy road about 40 minutes from Port Renfrew. Definitely would need a 4 x 4 for the last section. Some people did park by the final turn off and hiked in the last part. There is a small sign at the entrance to the trail. The trail is short and fairly easy although a little overgrown. We found a place to park a little past the Doug sign. Lovely Vistas on the walk down to the trail"
