This is a marvelously restored edifice now housing the harrowing and disturbingly dark history of thousands of our Indigenous people to which Canada and our governments have given minimal attention over the years.
It is a disturbing and somewhat overwhelming presentation which every Canadian should make an effort to witness.
The presentation of stories, artifacts and personal environments is truly immersive and extensive throughout the well-mapped four floors of the Institute. I would suggest the audio tour and at least a good two hours to thoroughly appreciate this amazing museum.
Also give yourself a fair amount of time to visit next door for the WOODLAND CULTURAL CENTRE displays and beautiful art gallery."

While the school building was closed to public at the time, we discovered a museum next door, with so much history of the Indigenous people, as well as beautiful and haunting and thought provoking art exhibits.
