What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors love Stories Beach for its natural, undeveloped beauty, especially the abundant driftwood and stunning sunset views. The expansive sandy areas revealed at low tide are a major draw. However, the lack of facilities, the need for sturdy footwear due to rocky terrain, and the absence of lifeguards are points to consider.
"Lovely rock beach with lots of driftwood, but no shade.
The beach isn’t official, so there’s no life guards, water testing, safety warnings, washrooms/change rooms, or waste bins.
From the parking, there’s around three meters of plants, large rocks, and large driftwood that you’ll need to climb through.
At high tide (approx 4 PM in July), there’s around five meters of beach. Waves were quite small. We were told that at low tide, there’s much more beach, and the waves start where it gets sandy. You’ll need some form of footwear to get there!
The driftwood makes great seating, but it’s easy to get splinters.
Also worth noting that there’s quite a few crab shells, you’ll need to keep dogs away and let kids observe with supervision."

Understanding the Tides at Stories Beach
Conversely, low tide dramatically transforms the beach. A much wider expanse of sand is revealed, creating a vast playground for exploration. This is the ideal time to walk along the shore, discover tide pools (if any), and appreciate the full scale of the beach. Checking a local tide chart before your visit is highly recommended to plan your trip around the most favorable tidal conditions.
Many visitors find the low tide period to be the most enjoyable for activities like beachcombing and simply relaxing on the newly exposed sand. The transition between tides also offers dynamic photographic opportunities.
Navigating the Natural Terrain
Visitors need to be prepared for a slightly challenging initial access. From the parking area, there's a short stretch involving plants, large rocks, and substantial driftwood that requires careful navigation. Sturdy footwear, such as hiking shoes or robust sandals, is strongly advised to prevent injuries and ensure comfort.
While the driftwood is a picturesque element, it's also worth noting that it can be easy to get splinters. Supervise children closely and be mindful when sitting or leaning on the wood. The natural state of the beach is part of its charm, but it requires a bit more preparation than a manicured tourist spot.
The Magic of Sunset at Stories Beach
Many visitors specifically mention coming to Stories Beach to watch the sunset, highlighting it as a memorable part of their visit. The combination of the natural beach setting, the sound of the waves, and the stunning visual display creates a truly magical atmosphere.
While the sunset is a major draw, it can also mean the beach becomes more crowded during these hours. If you prefer a more secluded experience, consider visiting earlier in the day, perhaps during low tide. However, for those who don't mind a bit of company, the sunset at Stories Beach is an unforgettable spectacle.
