"What a great little ride across and back. They're doing improvements as well. Great photo of a rigged sailing ship as we waited. Fantastic opportunity to see all thing marine."

"Oh halifax ferry how we will miss you. There’s something charming about taking a nice little ferry trip over the river and it’s especially beautiful at night with the city lights. We regularly spotted otters and seals during the day too! Staff were always helpful altho some a little rude at times. Pricing is super good if your paying a week pass and it also allows buss travel so cant complain there at all! If we come back we will be using it again!"
AaronsTravels
"While it has a limited seating area, it will be demolished and replaced with a new building. For this old building, all services were perfect and managed. We had a great chat with the officials of Halifax Transit, who are responsible for managing this service to be comfortable and on time."

The terminals themselves are also points of interest, with ongoing improvements and occasional live music or events adding to the atmosphere.
While the service is generally praised for its affordability and views, it's important to be prepared for the payment system. Halifax Transit typically requires exact cash, a bus pass, or their dedicated app, as credit cards are often not accepted for ferry fares. This old-school transit system detail is crucial for visitors to note to ensure a smooth boarding process. Despite this minor logistical point, the ferry remains a beloved and highly recommended way to experience Halifax and its surroundings.

When it comes to fares, the Halifax Transit app is your best friend for seamless payment, alongside the option of using a Halifax Transit bus pass or exact cash for the ferry. This is a key piece of advice echoed by many travelers who have navigated the system. While the bridge might not accept credit cards, the ferry offers a reliable and often more pleasant alternative for crossing the harbor.
Beyond the ferry, Halifax's bus system covers a wide area, making it possible to explore various neighborhoods and attractions without a car. Planning your routes using online tools or the transit app is recommended, especially if you're unfamiliar with the city. Many locals and visitors alike find the transit system to be efficient and a great way to experience Halifax like a local.
