What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
While historically a beautiful spot, recent reviews for Scotch Block Reservoir highlight significant environmental concerns including agricultural runoff, algal blooms, and odors. Access can also be an issue due to private land ownership, with limited parking and 'no trespassing' signs being common.
"Was once a beautiful spot but now the amount of agricultural runoff (pesticides/fertilizers) is extremely high. Massive algal blooms, dead fish everywhere, and a chemical musky odor. I visited there once in 2019 to enjoy the views and was asked by a pretty irrate local farmer to leave. I told him I knew this isn't how a healthy aquatic environment should function and obviously there was some sketchy stuff going on here by the farmers. He gave me a look like I knew too much and sped off. Don't go here."
Connor Sutherland
"Stay away, I saw a jelly fish there once
And lots of garbage on the shore line with toxic fumes"
Pete Fraser
"Best fishing ever...if you can get a canoe in the local land owners cant do a thing about it..."

Understanding Access and Land Ownership
It's crucial for visitors to understand that the land around the reservoir is largely private property. Unlike public parks with designated access points, Scotch Block Reservoir requires a heightened awareness of property rights. Planning a visit should involve accepting that direct, prolonged access might not be possible and that a scenic drive-by is often the most feasible way to experience the location.
Environmental Concerns and Water Quality
These environmental issues mean that activities like swimming or even extended stays near the water might be unpleasant or inadvisable. The presence of garbage on the shoreline has also been noted, further detracting from the natural beauty. Visitors should be prepared for these conditions and consider the implications for their visit, especially if planning activities that involve direct contact with the water or environment.
