Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Yellowhead Pass for its breathtaking mountain scenery, particularly the views of Mount Robson. It's highlighted as an excellent and convenient rest stop with historical information, picnic facilities, and a pleasant short hike. Some note the pit toilets and the need for sturdy footwear on the trails.

"The Yellowhead Pass National Historic Site is an excellent place to stop off on your way West out of Jasper. Straddled between Mount Robson Provincial Park and Jasper National Park, you certainly do not want to miss this gem!

There are a few picnic tables beside Portal Lake which makes a great place to enjoy some coffee or some lunch. There is also some informational signage about the Yellowhead Pass and the area. There are two pit toilets as well.

There is also a lovely walking trail that loops back to the parking lot. The trail itself is well marked and can be a bit steep is ascent and descent. It is best to wear hiking shoes as opposed to sandals or slides. The walk takes about 20 minutes and offers one beautiful views of Mount Robson to the west. There are also alpine cranberries to be found at the right time of year. Given the remote location, it is best to bring bear spray.

Overall, this is a must stop place along Highway 16A."

"A really interesting stop with some historical information boards worth a read.
There is a lake walk path which is signposted at the beginning. If you follow it all the way through past the lake up a ridge and back down through the forest. It was more like 30mins but it was a beautiful walk and don’t be scared the path will return you back to the car park just where the BC sign is.
It is a little steep in places and wouldn’t recommend for the frail and would recommend walking shoes not sliders or sandals even if it is a short walk."
