What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Marie Canyon is praised for its stunning natural beauty, featuring beautiful waterfalls and unique rock formations. Visitors enjoy the variety of pools, including a striking green one, and the secluded spots for sunbathing. However, the challenging, steep, and slippery terrain, along with limited parking and the presence of crayfish, are noted drawbacks.
"Amazing place! Beautiful water falls. There is limited parking in the lot (8 cars maybe) by can park on the street abit or further up. To the left is some neat exploring. To the right there is a variety of pools, rapids etc. There is one outhouse at the top near the map. A couple picnic benches. One broke and is currently removed but I think 2 still available. There is a path down that's fenced off then some wooden stairs. Strangely at the end is a broken cement platform and then you have to carefully climb down the list few feet as it's steep and a bit slidey. Not a good place for kids. The rocks are very uneven and jut upwards so good shoes is recommended. Will want water shoes or something if you're going in the pools. Watch for crayfish :3 pinch your toes. There is a neat spot that is secluded for nude tanning. Often see topless people tanning near the pools. If you keep going right there is a nice big deep pool. Beautiful green color. There is a small path up the cliff that hikers can enjoy. Absolutely favorite place in the Cowichan area."

Understanding the Agawa Canyon Tour Train
Passengers can expect a full-day excursion, typically lasting around 10 hours round trip. The train makes a stop at the canyon floor, allowing visitors to explore the area on foot, including short hikes to waterfalls and lookout points. It's important to note that while the keywords mention 'Marie Canyon,' this is a distinct natural area and not part of the official Agawa Canyon Tour Train route. The train's primary destination is the Agawa Canyon.
Booking tickets for the Agawa Canyon Tour Train is highly recommended, especially during the peak fall season, as tours often sell out. Checking the Agawa train schedule and booking in advance through the official website or authorized agents is crucial for securing your spot on this iconic Canadian rail experience.

The access to the canyon involves a path with a fenced-off section and wooden stairs, followed by a more challenging climb down a steep, slightly slippery section. This makes it less suitable for very young children. For those seeking a more relaxed experience, there are picnic benches available, and some visitors have noted secluded spots that are popular for nude tanning or topless sunbathing.
When visiting Marie Canyon, water shoes are highly recommended if you plan to enter the pools, as the rocks can be uneven and slippery. Be mindful of the local wildlife, as crayfish have been observed in the pools and can pinch toes. The Marie Canyon experience is about immersing yourself in raw, natural beauty, with opportunities for exploration and quiet enjoyment.
