What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Historic Markerville Creamery Museum for its informative exhibits on local dairy history and the enjoyable Foothills Creamery ice cream. The spacious backyard and park access are also highlighted as pleasant amenities. Some suggest more interactive elements for younger children in the museum section, and the ice cream shop can experience long queues during busy periods.
"Visited on a moderately busy Sunday, but the museum section was subdued. There were no staff or volunteers to guide so we had to do a self-directed tour of the (very small) museum. It was quite informative though and there was a lot of reading material posted on wall-boards describing the history and the Icelandic roots of this creamery.
It could be made more attractive for younger children if there are more interactive exhibits for them.
The ice cream shop part of this establishment (called a kaffistra in Icelandic, I think) was crowded though. There was a long line up. They serve treats from the famous Foothills Creamery (no they do not make ice-cream here), but the flavours selection is not as huge as, say, in Cochrane.
There is a spacious "back yard" with lots of benches to sit and enjoy the sweet cold cream and thereafter, the young ones can enjoy "riding" or "milking" the wooden cows."

"We went during the August 21 show and shine and we were so pleasantly surprised with the entire community! A fantastic slice of history in Alberta . We got to experience the best of this community with food, fantastic pie and ice cream along with arts, crafts and live music. The setting of this community is very quaint. We will be back for some peace and quiet and bring a few of our friends to camp next time"

"Very good ice cream, I got the monster cookie. I enjoyed the flavour and serving size."
