What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the incredible historical significance and the sheer scale of the Van Horne Estate, often calling it a 'must-visit' and a 'historic gem'. The unique experience of driving across the seafloor at low tide is a memorable highlight. Some note that more time is needed to fully explore the vast property.
"This was the summer home of William Van Horne, the former president of the Canadian Pacific Railway. It is designated a National, and Provicial, Historic Site. This "cottage" has over 50 rooms, 17 of which are bedrooms. Be sure to visit the nearby livestock barn where Van Horne's prize cattle were kept. Another outbuilding, the bath house, has a salt water pool. We could only access the estate by driving across the seafloor at low tide."

"Incredible historic place to visit. Worth the trip to the island. If you do go, make sure you go early. So much to see. Amazing barn that I could walk around in all day. The main house is huge! So many rooms and fully furnished with mostly original belongings. This history of this site cannot be understated. I had no clue just how important this family was to Canadian history. Without the Van Horne estate most of Canada would not be what it is today. Check the tide schedule and their hours and go."
