LONG story short: A few years ago I took a 23andme DNA test and found out that I had all sorts of Maritime cousins that I knew nothing about (I live in upstate NY south of Montréal and always knew I had majority French Canadian ancestors and relatives from and in Québec but not…

"Great museum that does a wonderful job illustrating the history of the Acadian people. I found the exhibits very informative and great for those who know a bit about Acadian history or those coming in not having any prior knowledge. Recommend if you’re visiting the area, the video at the beginning is a must watch. Their staff is also very friendly, Natasha was lovely!"

"It's an interesting little place that's in its infancy. Obviously. I mean its backroom is cordoned off by whiteboards that are keeping you from going further. They have a temporary exhibit. They also have somewhat more substantial permanent displays. And it gave me at least a good idea what Acadian is because I kept seeing the reference and wanted to finally know what it was. This cleared it up for me. It was French people as is so typical of them making more of themselves than they actually are. They're just French settlers that came here and lived here before the British took their territory instead. I don't know why they just don't call themselves French settlers I think it's not as if from the Dutch or German or English went to a new territory and were the first ones to be there that they invented a whole brand new name for themselves and considered as themselves a new classification of human. But the French dude make big deals of themselves and so Acadian I guess is a thing. But it's not really. It's just French settlers that were here and then got displaced. People of French descent I don't know why we need a new term. If they had all been packaged up and put back on the ship and sent back to France, they'd still just be French people that made us sojourn to Canada. Irish Americans who settled in Boston didn't redesignate themselves as anything other than the Irish. But for some reason the French people needed to make a new name for themselves"
