Reviews Summary

Visitors find Bore Park a fascinating spot to witness the unique tidal bore phenomenon, appreciating the well-maintained trails and riverside scenery. While the park itself is small, the natural spectacle is the main draw. Some visitors note that the river's color is striking, and caution is advised due to strong currents during high tides.

"Nice trail, well maintained. Tidal Bore is fascinating to watch. Very populated. The trail is very long, brings you to the stores in Dieppe and there is a good size skatepark on Moncton side"

Jade

"Great place in the city to watch the “rapids” with great foot path all along the trail. We went at high tide and the waters were quite high and so were the winds. We didn’t get to see the rapids where you could actually surf on but the currents were strong. Definitely not a place to fall in during high tides. Nature really is magical."

Minh Le

"Nice little spot. It's a small park, but the area by the river has a ton of bench seating to watch the bore. Only a handful of people there when we went. We were in time.to see it, just so I would suggest giving yourself 20-30m prior to posted times to be there."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

Understanding the Tidal Bore

The tidal bore at Bore Park is a direct result of the extreme tidal range in the Bay of Fundy, the largest in the world. As the tide rushes into the narrow and shallow Petitcodiac River, it creates a visible wave, or bores, that travels upstream against the river's natural flow. This phenomenon is most pronounced during spring tides, which occur around the new and full moon. The river's appearance changes dramatically, with the water color often described as chocolatey due to sediment. TikTokReddit

Witnessing the bore is a unique experience, with the sound of the incoming water often heard before it's seen. The intensity and size of the bore can vary, making each viewing potentially different. While some videos showcase surfers attempting to ride the bore, it's a challenging and potentially dangerous endeavor, and the bore is more commonly observed as a powerful surge of water. TikTok+1

For the most accurate information on when to see the bore, it's essential to consult reliable tide charts or local resources like tidalboretimes.ca. The times change daily, and arriving a bit before the scheduled time is recommended to fully appreciate the spectacle. Reddit
