"Do NOT recommend AT ALL. Worst trail I've ever done (and I've done plenty). The trail itself is too steep (do NOT attempt unless you're strong at cardio), made of slippery rocks, and surrounded by pine trees, mosquitoes and flies, so nothing to see. When you get to the top, it's mostly foggy and you can barely see Caribou. Not worth the time and effort, there are better ways to spend the day in the park. On your way down, it's a miracle if you manage to not slip or fall. Terrible."

At 1,268 metres, Mont Jacques-Cartier is the highest peak in the park. The treed-trail is steep and slow going on a smooth, bedrock trail. Past the side-trail to Lac à René, there are steps cut into the trail that make climbing to the summit to easier. The bare alpine tundra at the top makes it seem like you’re in the far north. The season to hike this trail is short, because it crosses tundra which is home to the caribou, and it’s essential that they aren't disturbed during their key reproductive periods. Chances are good you’ll see some.

"Second highest mountain in Quebec, great view and the possibility to watch caribous in their natural habitat. Because of them, access is restricted and a tour accompanied by a ranger must be booked. Great experience."
