"This is a sculptural fountain installation that is the work of Canadian artist Jean-Paul-Riopelle (1923-2002). It was originally installed at Olympic Park (1969) but relocated to Place Jean-Paul-Riopelle with the inauguration of the square in 2004.
What you see is an eclectic ensemble of abstract bronze figures representing humans and animals scattered inside and outside a shallow fountain basin. At centre is a structure that spouts water upward, falling into the basin throughout the day.
In the evenings, there is a kinetic sequence at this fountain, making use of fire jets and fog machines. We passed by during the day time thus only seeing the fountain as it normally stands. Would potentially be worth seeing in the evening as well to see the fountain show."
