The archaeological birthplace of Montreal (in the basement of Pointe-à-Callière Museum)

One of my favourite parts of my grade-seven trip to Montréal, my first time in the city. Seeing how much of the old town was preserved compared to in Toronto made me want to live here even then.

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the Pointe-à-Callière Museum's incredible historical insights, particularly the underground archaeological site and the comprehensive story of Montreal's founding. The interactive exhibits and panoramic city views are also frequently praised. However, some find the museum's layout confusing with inconsistent signage, and a few have encountered rude staff members.

"Absolutely amazing museum highlighting the founding history of Montreal. Been to Montreal a few times and only now got the chance to experience the incredible story that has been painstakingly uncovered and preserved under a portion of the old town. Highly recommend taking a tour - our tour guide Daniel was wonderful!"

"Great musuem, lots to look at, need 3-4 hours to see everything. Knight exhibit and tunnels + old montreal history is great.
Very confusing layout, very few signs and staff arent sure either. Multiple buildings (across the street), elevators, frieght elevators, stairs & tunnels.
Floor is very uneven and difficult for wheelchair / mobility. No signs to elevators (about 5-6 elevators to see everything)
Staff member (guy in suit) at front door is VERY rude. Yells at people outside the musuem. Other staff are nice and helpful.
Wheelchairs available (no reservations, leave ID at desk).
Some seating throughout / outside"

"Pretty interesting museum to checkout at the Old Port. The new and temporary interactive sections were the most fun .. knights, pirates, and the alley-op.

Accessible by bus and we didn't need to buy tickets in advance as we visited on a weekday. I can see it could get busy on weekends, so you might want to plan in advance.

It is near other attractions at the Old Port, and you can easily spend a few hours here depending on how in-depth you are checking out each exhibit."
