4x4 Vehicle is Essential

The forest road to the trailhead is rough and requires a high-clearance 4x4 vehicle. Many reviewers emphasize that standard SUVs or cars will not make it, and even some 4x4s struggle with washouts. Plan accordingly to avoid disappointment.

Prepare for an Exposed Hike

Mount Cheam is largely exposed with minimal shade. Bring ample water, sunscreen, and a hat, especially during summer. The trail is steep in sections, so be ready for a challenging but rewarding climb.

Mount Cheam was a special one for us. There is a park on the hill by our place that we can see the mountains from. Aside from baker Cheam is the most prominent peak. We have been wanting to check this place out for some time and finally made it. We can now look at the mountains with satisfaction. 🏔😍

Reviews Summary

Mount Cheam offers absolutely stunning panoramic views that are well worth the challenging hike. Visitors rave about the breathtaking scenery, especially in autumn, and the rewarding climb. However, the rough forest road requiring a 4x4 vehicle is a significant barrier, and the exposed trail demands ample preparation for sun and hydration. Litter is also a growing concern.

"Absolutely stunning hike. I’ve done it in the summer and in autumn now, and autumn wins in terms of views. The colours are unbelievably beautiful, and the view at the end are 360° of the Fraser Valley and the mountain ranges around.

Whole hike is exposed and there are no water sources. Bring lots of water, sunscreen, and hats. There is also no garbage here so please be mindful and leave no trace. Unfortunately, with the popularity of this hike growing, there is an increase of litter on the trails.

Also please don’t even bother trying to come if you don’t have a 4x4 - we saw an Evo attempting the first bit of the drive and you are certainly not going to make it. You need a high clearance vehicle as the road gets significantly worse in the second half. I think it’s been getting worse with all the traffic on it this summer."

"Great hike, the path is straightforward, there are some side paths as well but they all go up eventually. Plenty of blueberries on the way up. Easy to intermediate about 2hr hike one way from the parking lot. 4x4 its a must."

"A high clearance 4x4 vehicle is recommended for the service road, eventhou I was passed by a mercedes glc350 while almost losing my rear bumper 🤣 view was spectacular the wholeway but it's non stop uphilll and quite steep in sections with minimal shade."
