Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Naramata Bench for its stunning lake views, exceptional wineries, and welcoming accommodations. The quality of the wine, combined with the beautiful scenery and friendly hosts, creates a memorable experience. Some guests note that while many wineries are walkable from certain locations, a car is often necessary for broader exploration, and booking tasting appointments in advance is highly recommended.
"We came here for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon in the Okanagan. We absolutely loved our stay. Breakfast in the morning was great - we had omelets one morning, French toast, and then egg bites another with lots of supplemental options.
We enjoyed using the pool and the hot tub. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous.
The bed was comfy and the shower in the bathroom was so nice!
We also liked that we could walk the nearby loop of wineries on our own as so many are best accessed by car or bike (which isnβt ideal when you both want to enjoy the tastings).
We definitely hope to stay again."

Frequently Asked Questions
π πΊοΈ Getting There
The Naramata Bench is located near Penticton, BC. Most visitors arrive by car, flying into Penticton Regional Airport (YYF) or Kelowna International Airport (YLW) and renting a vehicle. Driving from Vancouver takes approximately 4-5 hours. Once on the Bench, a car is often the easiest way to explore multiple wineries, though some accommodations offer walkability to nearby tasting rooms.
Public transportation is limited on the Naramata Bench itself. While there are local bus routes in Penticton, they do not extensively cover the winery region. Many visitors opt for organized wine tours or hire private drivers for convenient transportation between wineries.
Yes, biking is a popular way to explore the Naramata Bench, especially if you're staying at an accommodation within walking or biking distance of several wineries. The Kettle Valley Trail also provides a scenic route for cyclists. Be prepared for some hills and ensure you have a safe way to transport any purchased wine.
For wine tasting, it's highly recommended to arrange transportation that allows everyone to partake. Options include hiring a private driver, joining a guided wine tour, or using a taxi service. This ensures safety and allows you to fully enjoy the Naramata wine tasting experience.
Several local companies offer shuttle services and organized wine tours specifically for the Naramata Bench. These tours often include transportation to multiple wineries, sometimes with curated tasting experiences. Booking in advance is crucial, especially during the busy season.
π« π« Tickets & Entry
It is highly recommended to book wine tastings in advance, especially for popular wineries or during peak season (summer and long weekends). Many wineries now require reservations to manage capacity and ensure a quality experience for visitors. Check individual winery websites for their booking policies.
Wine tasting fees can vary significantly between wineries, typically ranging from $10 to $25 per person. Some wineries may waive the tasting fee with a minimum wine purchase. It's always best to check the winery's website or call ahead for current pricing.
Winery hours on the Naramata Bench can vary seasonally. Generally, most wineries are open daily from late spring through early fall, often from 11 AM to 5 PM or 6 PM. Some may have reduced hours in the shoulder seasons or be closed during winter. Always verify current hours directly with the winery.
While many wineries do charge tasting fees, some may offer complimentary tastings with a significant wine purchase. It's less common to find wineries with entirely free tastings, as it's a key part of their business model. Inquire directly with wineries about their policies.
While some smaller or less busy wineries might accommodate walk-ins, it's not guaranteed. To avoid disappointment and ensure you get to experience the wineries you're most interested in, making reservations is the safest approach. This is particularly true for weekend visits.
π« π§ Onsite Experience
The Naramata Bench is renowned for its exceptional wineries, producing a wide array of award-winning wines, particularly Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Merlot. It's also celebrated for its stunning Okanagan Lake views, charming accommodations, and access to the Kettle Valley Trail.
Popular choices include Hillside Winery, Roche Winery, Lang Winery, and Moraine Winery, known for their quality wines and beautiful settings. Many visitors also rave about smaller, boutique wineries for unique experiences. Exploring based on your preferred wine varietals is a great strategy.
Yes, several wineries have excellent onsite restaurants or bistros, such as Hillside Bistro. Naramata Village also offers dining options. Many accommodations provide breakfast, and there are picnic areas at some wineries, perfect for enjoying local produce with your wine.
Beyond wine tasting, you can explore the Kettle Valley Trail for hiking or biking, enjoy water activities on Okanagan Lake, visit local farmers' markets, or simply relax and take in the scenic beauty. Many accommodations offer pools and hot tubs.
While primarily a wine destination, many wineries are welcoming to families, especially during the day. Some offer non-alcoholic tasting options or have space for children to explore. The Kettle Valley Trail and lake activities are also great for families.
πΈ πΈ Photography
The entire Naramata Bench is a photographer's dream! Key spots include panoramic views of Okanagan Lake from winery terraces, vineyard rows stretching towards the water, and the charming architecture of wineries like Hillside Winery. Golden hour (sunrise and sunset) offers magical light.
A versatile camera with a good zoom lens is ideal for capturing both sweeping landscapes and details within the vineyards. A wide-angle lens is great for expansive lake views. Don't forget a polarizing filter to enhance the blues of the sky and water.
The 'golden hours' around sunrise and sunset provide the most dramatic and flattering light for photography. Midday can be harsh, but can work well for capturing the vibrant colors of wine bottles and tasting rooms. Early mornings also offer fewer crowds.
Look for reflections in wine glasses, textures of grape leaves, historic winery buildings, and the contrast between the arid landscape and the blue lake. Capturing the process of wine-making, if permitted, can also yield unique shots.
Generally, photography is allowed in tasting rooms and public areas of wineries, but always be respectful of other guests and staff. Some wineries may have specific restrictions on photography in production areas or private cellars. It's best to ask permission if unsure.
