The charm of the smallest lock on the Trent-Severn Waterway, combined with the convenience of the adjacent village amenities, makes it a highly recommended stop for both boaters and land visitors. Some may find the lock operation brief, but its historical significance is widely appreciated.
"Lock 45 at Port Severn is the last lock on the Trent Severn Waterway, connecting the Waterway with Georgian Bay. It is over 100 years old and is still operated manually. This is the smallest lock on the system, and has a vertical lift of 12 feet. It feels like a step back in time when you're in a boat, the doors close, and the lock staff begin to crank the valves open by hand. Typically it only takes about 10 min to travel vertically the 12 feet. The lock staff are always professional, courteous, and helpful. This lock station has a small exhibit inside, and public washroom facilities. There is also on-site car parking and a picnic area with gazebo. There are public boat docks right beside the lock to the west. If you visit, be sure to check out the businesses in the small village of Port Severn just to the east of the lock. There's a general store with a butcher and small grocery selection, a restaurant/cafe with great sandwiches, pizza, etc with an outdoor patio, and an LCBO. Definitely worth a visit to the Port Severn Lock if you're passing through. Best to go on weekends in the summer when there is more boat traffic if you are going by car and want to observe the Lock in action."

"The last lock in the historic Trent-Severn Waterway is the gateway to Georgian Bay and the smallest lock in the system. The amazing fact- it’s still hand operated the way it was 100 years ago! Stop by in the summer and watch the boats drop to the level of Georgian Bay. It’s a relaxing few hours with great scenery and history."
