What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Haywire Bay Recreation Site, consistently praising its spectacular lakeside location, private and well-treed campsites, and family-friendly atmosphere. The easy access to the Sunshine Coast Trail and the general cleanliness of the facilities are also major highlights. Some minor drawbacks include the gravel access roads and the cost/duration of the coin-operated showers.
"Really nice campground, as usual with the Provincial Campgrounds. It's very clean, tidy and well kept, the sites are generous and well treed and private. There is a shower which is nice (takes 2 loonies), and it's also clean and spacious. The check in/registration process was very easy and it was possible to pay by card, always a bonus. Fire wood is available from the host.
The location is spectacular, only 20 mins from town (Powell River) along really well graded and smooth FSRs, the beach and lake are gorgeous. Also the famous Sunshine Coast Trail passes really close by so you can easily hop on it here for an epic hike or a leisurely strole up to Haywire Bluffs. All in all I'd happily give this campground a 10/10. Do visit!"

"Great campground for families. Playground is in the middle, with the campsites looping around outside of it. Get there early if you want a lakeside spot."

"A 5 stars campground. We love the size; you have privacy for sure. It is a first-come, first-serve, which is good. The washroom is okay; you just need to find a clean one. Interestingly, there is a shower coin, so you need to pay 1 dollar for 3 minutes warm shower. It is located on the playground—a perfect campground for the family with young kids and a lovely beach. The only thing is the gravel road, but yeah it's fine. Overall, great experience!"
