What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Gare du Palais is praised for its beautiful, historic architecture and calm, classic atmosphere, offering a pleasant arrival experience. However, some travelers have encountered issues with VIA Rail's baggage fees and customer service, and internal amenities are limited, requiring visitors to explore the nearby Old Quebec for more options.
"This is a nice train station conveniently located near all the scenic sights of Quebec City. It was under renovations during my visit but it’s a simple and easy VIA station. There isn’t a whole lot in terms of shopping and snacks but there’s lots in the area outside the station. 👍😎"

"⚠️ Must Read — VIA Rail Travelers ⚠️
Quebec VIA Rail train station charges checked baggage fees, but there’s no checked baggage service anymore. No check-in, no handling, no claim — just a fee for hauling your own damn bags. Total rip-off. Why pay for nothing?
When I complained about it, instead of helping, a staff member named something like "Brisket" spoke down to me like I was stupid: “There’s no such thing, do you need a translator? Should I say it slower? I can explain it many many times.” I’ve never felt so insulted as a traveler.
Paying for a service that doesn’t exist is bad enough — getting mocked for asking about it makes it worse. Honestly, take a bus or a flight instead. Don’t waste your money or ruin your day."

"⚠️ Warning! July 9 2025: Via Rail employees target those who came early and sit in or near the economy waiting area, to weight their luggage and threaten them of refusal to board. Their pound scale seems to be somehow problematic. It is unfair because if you are very alert and mindful, you'll see what's going on here, you'll then quickly retrieve when they are not looking and not letting anybody scanning your ticket and go hang somewhere else. Then, you come when they start to board and can easily skip weighing.
Most people are already very tired of traveling and all the indefinite delays if they have a transfer at QC and not alert.
I do believe this world isn't just for those who are "smart" enough to navigate, while those who are not have to pay."
