Lake Wilcox Park, where to park?

Hey fellow RHers, when the plan is in place I sure will apply for a parking permit but since it's in the middle of it all and I see that the benches and picnic tables are opened, I wouldn't mind holding a cup of Tims and just sit there by the water you know. Where do you guys…

Reviews Summary

Lake Wilcox Park is a beloved waterfront recreation area in Richmond Hill, praised for its family-friendly splash pad, playgrounds, and scenic boardwalk. Visitors enjoy picnicking, watching sunsets, and the overall natural beauty. Some find the parking fees steep and washroom facilities could be improved, but it remains a popular spot for outdoor enjoyment.

"A nice park by the lake in beautiful Richmond Hill. Lots of things to do here: stroll along boardwalk, fishing, picnicking, boating, kids can even play the water ( no life guards so beware). The beach area is not big at all and can be crowded on weekends. Still, people find space to sunbathe and kids play in water. Close by, there’s a boat house for boat rentals. I saw two dragon boat teams on the water seem they were practicing. Very cool to watch ( as well as the other boaters that took to the water). I stay on the shore by the bench near the beach, surrounded by Canada geese. There were people fishing by the lake, too. Some young kids were fishing by the boardwalk and that’s not cool, since they’re are designated area. Luckily, most people know not to. This is a nice spot to watch the sunset. We know the sun sets in the west and what a beautiful sight to see the sun fall behind the lake. Absolutely breathtaking. Be careful not to trespass and watch for signs about trespassing on private property because there are some areas along the lake that are not open to the public. At the end of the boardwalk, there are houses. Be respectful of people’s property. There are big play areas for kids too on the north and south ends of the park. On the north end you will find a large play and picnic area. The splash park and playground area is very family friendly, kids can play and seating area for their parents. In summer months an ice cream truck is usually around. There are various parking areas, including an unpaved overflow parking lot because there are so many visitors to the park. Residents of Richmond Hill can apply for one parking permit per household. So if you don’t have a permit, be sure to pay for your parking because the parking lots are well patrolled and vehicles ticketed for failure to pay. While the north end of the park is for leisure, the south end is for those more active. Basketball court, volleyball, skatepark, outdoor exercise etc. this is a truly fun place to hang out."

"The trail around the lake is fantastic, beautiful, and well-maintained, perfect for hikers of all ages and abilities. The playground is geared towards kids aged 10 and younger. Besides the playground, there's a splash water park and sandy area that kids enjoy playing in. Just remember to bring shovels and buckets for extra fun! There are lots of picnic tables and benches all around to rest and look at the water. Parking is $7 per hour, which is pricey, but it's free from winter until May."

"Great park. Paid parking unless you live in Richmond Hill. You can then print out a free parking permit on the city website.

Summer bring the ice cream truck and hot dog cart to the park along with the water works. After September 30th the parking is free.

Bathrooms are clean and there are plenty of picnic tables for families to use. No bbq allowed in the park.

The playgrounds are great for families with kids. Beautiful lake and park. The walking trail is small. Not for hiking. Just come here for an hour for some fresh air and beautiful views."
