Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Britannia Shipyards for its historical significance and charming waterfront location, making it a pleasant spot for family outings and peaceful walks. While some exhibits are undergoing renovation, the preserved buildings offer a valuable glimpse into Canada's maritime past. The site is considered a worthwhile, albeit brief, visit within the broader appeal of Steveston Village.

"The Shipyard Historic Site is a lovely place to visit, especially during spring and summer. It’s a great destination for family outings or school field trips. Located right by a large river, it’s also perfect for a peaceful walk or a scenic jog.

Although the history displayed here only dates back a little over a hundred years—which may not seem very old by global standards—it’s considered quite significant in the context of Canadian history. For local visitors, it offers a meaningful glimpse into the past.

The staff here are enthusiastic and engaging in their storytelling, which makes the experience enjoyable and educational, especially for children. Overall, it’s a charming and informative spot to spend a few hours with the family."

Nancy Wang

"I love how you can immerse yourself in the environment here. It looks like a significant portion of the exhibits are under construction at the moment (6 out of 13 of the buildings?). Prior to this construction, the Chinese bunkhouse was one of my favourite exhibits, because you can so plainly see the living conditions of the workers.

Looking forward to when the construction is finished! Hopefully, it is to renovate the exhibits, rather than to tear them down."

Edith Wu

"Britannia Shipyards is a nice historical spot with scenic views and interesting heritage buildings. It’s small, so you can see everything in under an hour. Worth a quick visit if you’re in Steveston, but not a full-day attraction."
