"A place with some magic.
We were for a weekend in Rimouski and this is one of the places we encountered on our way on the area, I didn't know well the story of the wrecking of the Empress of Ireland 🚢 bote, so it's the museum just in front of the Faro, the tallest in Quebec.
The museum includes on the ticket prices, a short film of about 20 minutes, with a fictional, but well made explanation of what could have been happening on board at the moment.
The exhibition includes objects rescue from the bottom of the Saint Laurent's River with some impressive pieces, the whole experience is worth it, if this is your type of activity"

"The Empress of Ireland Museum in Rimouski, Quebec, offers a poignant and immersive journey into one of the most tragic maritime disasters in Canadian history. As a renowned cultural institution, it skillfully preserves the memory of the RMS Empress of Ireland, a majestic passenger liner that sank in the Saint Lawrence River in 1914, claiming the lives of over a thousand souls.

Upon entering the museum, visitors are greeted with a comprehensive display of artifacts, photographs, and interactive exhibits that vividly recount the story of the ill-fated vessel. The museum's layout effectively guides guests through the ship's history, from its construction and opulent interior to its final voyage and tragic demise. The inclusion of personal belongings recovered from the wreckage adds a somber and humanizing element to the narrative, allowing visitors to connect on a deeper level with the individuals whose lives were forever altered by the disaster.

One of the museum's standout features is its dedication to education and commemoration. Through engaging multimedia presentations and informative guided tours, visitors gain insight into the historical context surrounding the Empress of Ireland's sinking and the broader impact it had on maritime safety regulations. Additionally, the museum hosts various events and workshops aimed at fostering dialogue and reflection on the significance of maritime heritage and the importance of preserving collective memory.

Furthermore, the Empress of Ireland Museum serves as a fitting tribute to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of tragedy. Its thoughtfully curated exhibits honor the courage and sacrifice of the passengers and crew, ensuring that their stories are not forgotten with time. Overall, a visit to the Empress of Ireland Museum is a deeply moving and enlightening experience, offering a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the enduring power of remembrance."

"Magic place for such a sadly abandoned page in the history (everyone knows 'Titanic', almost no one knows 'Empress of Ireland' who sank just two years after and took nearly the same amount of lives).

The movie you watch before visiting the museum itself is like 5D (not "stereo", but with sensory effects - take the upper couple of rows for better experience), and then goes the exibition itself with all the models, artifacts and interactive screens.

Highly recommend.

PS: if you plan to visit both (or all three attractions) - give yourself at least 3 hours overall, and save on the "all-in-one" tickets."
