"Went in early December when eagles swarm to feed off the salmon. You could see a dozen in one tree alone. Quite magnificent!
Sunrise or around 230pm are best viewing times in early December I was told.
Due to Covid-19, my rafting trip was cancelled, so I hiked up along the lush river bank just past Fergies cafe. Gorgeous scenic area with lots of moss, fishermen, eagles and vultures.
Beautiful afternoon just walking along the river with mountains in the background. The cafe is a warm and pleasant follow up."

Inner Insights

"I've been there many times, but I have never seen a large group of eagle gathering. It's a bit disappointing, but the hiking there is much fun, and scenery was amazing. I heard the eagles only appear if there is a large amount of died salmon. But the times we went there were only 1 or 2 eagles. Hopefully we will have better luck next time."

"We came here to fish off the Squamish River as the Chek and the Mamquam were closed this year due to drought conditions and low salmon run. The river was cold and fast and murky green coloured, but the day was sunny and hot and there was no one else fishing the sandbar today. I did some fly fishing and couldn’t land any but fought a bunch of good bites, and my kids landed a male and a female Pink salmon which were both so healthy looking! We returned them back to the river for their trip back to the spawning grounds, and it reinvigorated our efforts to keep trying. There is no shortage of walkable river’s edge up and down here and innumerable spots to fish from. We saw eagles and seals hunting for the same fish we came for. Such a wonderful day and everywhere you look is nature. These are the places that make you glad to live and play in Beautiful British Columbia."
