What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors often praise St. Albert Place for its vibrant community events, particularly the popular Farmers' Market, and its beautiful natural spaces like the Sturgeon River trails. The walkable Perron District is also a highlight for exploring local shops and cafes. However, some reviews mention challenges with parking during peak event times, and a few historical accounts suggest a less welcoming social climate in certain periods.
"Anonymous Review – A Small Canadian Town
One former resident described certain periods of living in this town as “living hell.”
Beyond difficult family dynamics at home, they experienced ongoing harassment from people they had gone to school with years earlier. As adults, some former classmates would deliberately follow them in vehicles or appear at locations they frequented, creating persistent discomfort and a sense of being monitored.
The individual also discovered that their computer and cellphone had been compromised with tracking software and spyware. According to the person affected, this was done by a neighbour and by others who openly said they simply “wanted to keep tabs.”
In Canada, installing tracking or surveillance software on someone else’s device without consent is a criminal offence under section 342.1 (unauthorized use of a computer) and section 184 (interception of private communications) of the Criminal Code, unless carried out by law enforcement with judicial authorization. These installations were not part of any police investigation.
The former resident, who identifies as part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, already found the social climate in the province challenging. They felt that being visibly queer in this town amplified the targeting, with some locals expressing or implying that they were an “idiot who deserves to burn” or otherwise treating them as an acceptable target for hostility.
From this person’s perspective, segments of the community appeared to tolerate—or at times quietly enable—stalking, illegal surveillance, and prolonged personal harassment of certain individuals. They believe the town’s priorities are misaligned when minor issues receive strong collective support while serious violations of privacy and safety are downplayed or ignored.
They ultimately concluded that people in these circumstances deserve far better protection and respect than this community provided."

"Had the opportunity to explore the festivities and do a little shopping, while listening to live music and having a nice time at the indoor winter market. Would recommend to anyone, especially those with kids. Lots to do, great pictures to be had and in general, just a really nice time."

"The “Spring Forward “ Spring art show and sale is coming up fast. This is an annual recurring art show and sale held twice each year by the St. Albert Painters Guild. This is a great art show to attend as all paintings are checked to ensure wires are professionally installed (qc check) and there is a wide selection of beautiful art on display for every type of painting and also at a wide range of prices."
