Visitors praise Thornton Creek Hatchery for its educational value regarding salmon life cycles and the thrilling possibility of spotting black bears in their natural habitat. The knowledgeable and friendly staff significantly enhance the experience, making it a worthwhile visit for nature enthusiasts. However, the bumpy access road and limited parking are noted drawbacks, and bear sightings are not guaranteed.

"Great place to visit to learn about the life cycle of salmon as well as hopefully spotting a bear or two. The guy working there was super friendly, really knowledgeable and took the time out to come and speak with us and explain the workings. He was also always on the lookout for a bear for us and just before we left we lucked out and one appeared out of the bush. Don’t forget to leave a tip if visiting! Due to the change in climate it’s been a difficult few years for anybody in the fisheries industry."

"Worth the visit and the chance to see bears! We weren’t so lucky in the bear department, but the fish were pretty neat to see and the staff were very informative and kind with any questions we had. It’s a pretty spectacular thing they are doing. Really appreciate the experience and knowledge gained."

"Bumpy dirt road to get there but well worth it for a chance to see bears in natural habitat. You have to stay within the fenced area for saftety. Plan for multiple visits for sighting. It's very serene and beautiful to nature watch, even if you don't catch the bears at the right time. Limited parking."
