What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Comedy Bar is lauded for its exceptional talent in both stand-up and improv, offering a vibrant and intimate comedy experience in Toronto. While seating can be tight and some 'new material' shows may feature less polished acts, the overall atmosphere, friendly staff, and unique BYO food policy make it a highly recommended spot for a night of laughter.
"Sunday night 9pm timeslot / show is a disappointment. Four or 5 comedians and a 20 person crowd. They call it “new material” but I call it amateur hour. The MC and comics engage with the audience to humiliate people if they don’t laugh. At one point it felt like a Michael-Richards was about to go down. Anyway… Hello? $30 a ticket to be verbally abused by insecure amateurs who are not even funny?! I don’t think everyone was getting paid. They should make the “new material show” free, or half price! at least get some positive audience energy. The single comedian who was not reading from his phone is the one pictured."

"It's different! But different is good sometimes. My first time and it was a blast at this establishment. Go check it out for yourself, you won't be disappointed. Time well spent is indeed time well spent."

"Visited the comedy club for the first time. I did like that there were seats in the waiting area where you can grab drinks and snacks( chips, chocolate bars, and candy) with your friends or family. It was different. They didn't serve food because they didn't have a kitchen, but you were able to bring in food from the outside. So we brought in burgers from banquet burgers across the street.
The server at the clear was friendly and polite.
The seating area on the main room was a bit tight. Especially if you have winter coats or jackets. The seats were small. But over all the show was good. We went for the 7pm secrets show."

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
For a more family-friendly comedy experience, look for specific improv or sketch shows that are advertised as all-ages. The interactive nature of improv can be engaging for a wide range of ages, but always verify beforehand. The ability to bring in outside food can also be a plus for families with specific dietary needs.
💰 Budget Travelers
To maximize savings, consider attending shows on weeknights when crowds are typically smaller and prices might be lower. Also, taking advantage of the option to bring in outside food can help cut down on overall expenses for the evening. Public transit is also a cost-effective way to reach the venue.
👫 Couples
Consider booking tickets for a weekend show for a livelier atmosphere, or a weeknight for a more relaxed vibe. The option to bring in food from nearby restaurants adds a nice touch, allowing you to enjoy a pre-show meal together before diving into the comedy.

The Toronto Comedy Scene at Comedy Bar
Visitors often rave about the quality of talent, with many calling it the best coming out of Toronto. Whether you're catching a late-night stand-up set or an unpredictable improv show, the energy is palpable. The intimate setting ensures you're close to the action, making every laugh feel shared.
Beyond the main stage, Comedy Bar also offers a separate lounge area, providing a more relaxed space to grab drinks and socialize. This dual offering makes it a versatile spot for a night out, catering to different moods and preferences. The welcoming staff and owner's approach contribute to its reputation as a gem in the city.
Navigating Improv and Stand-Up
Improv shows, on the other hand, are entirely unscripted, with performers creating scenes and characters on the fly based on audience suggestions. This spontaneity leads to unique and often side-splitting performances, like the D&D improv shows that have captivated audiences. The 'Laugh Your Pad Off' show, featuring sketch and improv, is another example of the diverse comedic formats available.
When choosing between the two, consider your preference for structured jokes versus unpredictable scenarios. Both offer a fantastic night out, but improv provides an extra layer of surprise and audience participation that many find exhilarating.
Food and Drink Options
A unique aspect of visiting Comedy Bar is the ability to bring in food from external restaurants. This has led to a popular practice of grabbing meals from nearby eateries, such as burgers from Banquet Burgers across the street, and enjoying them during the show. It adds a local flavor to the experience and allows for more dining flexibility.
For drinks, the venue provides a range of beverages to complement the comedy. Whether you're opting for a classic cocktail or a non-alcoholic choice, you can enjoy it while taking in the performances. The friendly servers ensure a pleasant experience throughout your visit.
