What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Spirit of York offers a mixed bag of experiences. Many praise the excellent craft cocktails, knowledgeable staff, and cozy atmosphere, especially during festive times. However, some visitors have noted inconsistent service and found certain food items to be overpriced for their portion size.
"This place is pretty brutal, not gonna lie. But honestly, the distillery district is a total tourist trap with corporate top 40 restaurants that have all the visual flare in the world but no substance, this place is no different. Ending up here was definitely the low point of our Christmas market outing. We sat at the bar only to discover water service was a thing once another couple sat next to us. Right off the bat, inconsistent service. Their washrooms are unfortunate, a two stall lineup on a Tuesday at 5pm…whose design decision was that? Their food menu from what we saw is rough. The items reasonably priced have ridiculously small portion sizes, so don’t be fooled, an $18 smoked meat sandwich categorized as a main, is really a front, it’s a full on appetizer sized sandwich (I mean, what purpose do these toothpicks have? They’re not holding anything together…cuz there’s no meat!), add fries to make $22 and you hate yourself even more. They look after the customers who spend over $30 for a main though as the seafood pie looked solid. The charcuterie board is pretty darn simple for $41, you get meat and cheese, crutes…and not much else. I almost wanted to tell the chef, you know olives and picked veg exist right? Anyway, our other menu item didn’t even arrive since the server didn’t punch it in and blamed it on the kitchen, a classic move. Ultimately-skip this place. Overpriced and the definition of mediocre when it comes to food and service."

"Excellent experience, plenty of seating inside and out, was wonderful outside so we sat out on the patio and people watched. The service was prompt and not pushy. Questions for selections were answered. Mahi, our server was excellent! The craft cocktails are made to order, depending on how busy they are it may take some time, but totally worth the wait.
Definitely worth the stop! There’s even a happy hour."

"In the epicenter of Christmas merriment, one location shined brighter than Rudolph’s nose. This wonderfully cozy spot was filled with welcoming staff, decor, and patrons to elevate your experience to a height only reindeer’s can fly. Trisha, who certainly will make the nice list, was a bartender that most people mail Santa about directly. With wonderful drink recommendations, conversation, and city advice, my day and trip was made jolly and bright. I can’t say enough good things about this place but the reviews have a word count limit so I’ll leave you with this.
You’ll need to make Spirit of York similar to Santa’s list, and check this place more than once!"
